HANA RAZGA Ward Eight Councillor
Hana Believes
Green Agenda for Edmonton:
After years of denial, employers and our political leaders have been forced to acknowledge the reality of global warming. Individually and collectively, we must reduce our consumption of fossil fuels and introduce the many viable alternatives.
Fair Wages and a Made in Canada Purchasing Policy:
One of the ways the City can help in the fight for fair wages in Edmonton is to ensure that the City has a fair wage schedule for work contracted to the construction industry. The City can adopt and enforce a ”Fair Wage Policy” to ensure that contractors pay the union rate and uphold good working conditions in all municipal projects.
Building a sustainable fiscal base for our City and communities:
As your councillor I will support initiatives to participatory budgeting processes to develop new taxation strategy for local governments, such as:

- Lobbying the provincial government to stop collecting property taxes (this would allow local governments to collect $9.8 billion more in revenue)
- Lobbying the federal government to transfer one cent of the GST (this would add $5 billion to the coffers of local governments). As well, the federal government should establish a permanent transfer funded out of income taxes, give the local governments a rebate of the GST municipalities pay and make the municipal share of the federal gas tax permanent.
Building Cities and Communities:
As your councillor, I will fight against privatization of our community infrastructures. When governments make public investment in infrastructure, they are making a commitment to the future.
