After years of denial, employers and our political leaders have been forced to acknowledge the reality of global warming. Individually and collectively, we must reduce our consumption of fossil fuels and introduce the many viable alternatives.
We need to establish transit strategies to reduce reliance on automobiles. We must increase our networks of public transportation, and clean up our air quality.
We need to stop urban sprawl and increase the density of our neighbourhoods. This also means we must stop closures of schools in mature neighbourhoods in order to attract young familities with children.
We need to retrofit our homes and public buildings. We need to use clean energy and get serious about conservation practices. We need creative and responsible waste strategies. We must consider how the decision of today will affect our descendants seven generations from now.
As your councillor, I will continue to support Smart Growth initiatives for our City, particularly in the areas of housing, public transit, parks, recreation and culture.
